“The University of Mary Washington is an academic community dedicated to the highest standards of scholarship, personal integrity, responsible conduct and respect for the individual. We are committed to the acceptance and appreciation of diversity in our community."

The above statement, taken from the University’s Statement of Community Values, reflects the importance of diversity in achieving educational excellence.  Through its admission policies and practices, the University purposely seeks to enroll a student body that is rich in diversity.  Viewed in its broadest sense, diversity in enrollment incorporates students with a wide variety of academic interests, talents and abilities as well as those of diverse geographic origin (including international students), gender, economic background, ethnicity and race.

To proactively seek a diverse student body and the educational benefits derived from it, the University has enhanced outreach efforts to talented students from throughout Virginia and the nation. Such efforts are intended to broaden the applicant pool from which the University chooses students and to contribute to the campus environment. Each applicant for admission is considered individually, and selection is based on a number of criteria, including grades, class rank, test scores, high school attended, courses taken, special talents, leadership activities, and recommendations.
