Admission Requirements

  • Application for Admission, Application for Virginia In-State Tuition Rates, and $50 application fee or fee waiver;
  • An earned baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university
  • A GPA of at least 3.0 for the final 60 undergraduate hours of course work
  • Students whose undergraduate GPA is below 3.0 may be asked to take the GMAT or GRE.
  • Current résumé
  • A one-page summary of applicant’s educational and professional goals
  • Official transcripts from all academic institutions attended
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • One or more years of professional experience preferred
  • For those for whom English is not their first language, demonstration of competency on the Test of English as a Foreign Language may be required

Students without prior coursework in foundation areas must complete appropriate classes toward the degree. All students must complete 24 hours of core courses, as well as 12 hours of MSMIS elective credits. A minimum of 36 graduate semester hours must be completed to meet MSMIS degree requirements. Total number of credits needed to complete the MSMIS program ranges from 36 to 51, depending on the number of foundation courses required. Total number of credits needed to complete the MBA/MSMIS Dual Degree program ranges from 48 to 78, depending on the number of foundation courses required.

Application Dates

Your application should be complete (application forms, transcripts, and all supporting documents) by the following dates:

Fall Admission: June 1
Spring Admission: October 1
Summer Admission: March 1

You may also begin the program as a non-degree student.
