Transfer Student Information

Here's What We're looking for in a Transfer Student

Transfer Admission to the UMW BA/BS Degree program is competitive. We look for students who have taken a strong college program in the liberal arts and sciences including courses in the natural sciences, mathematics, foreign languages, social sciences, and humanities. While we consider all aspects of a student's academic record, the greatest emphasis is placed on a candidate's most recent college course work. The Admissions Committee considers the individual strengths and talents of each applicant as well as the availability of curricular offerings in an applicant's area of academic interest.

To be a candidate for transfer admission to the BA/BS program, you must have earned a high school diploma, GED, or the equivalent prior to applying to UMW. You may apply to transfer at any point in your college or university career. However, the most competitive applicants will have maintained at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and completed at least 15 semester hours of course work in the liberal arts and sciences, including transferable courses which will satisfy the UMW General Education requirements in laboratory science, mathematics, and foreign language.

If you are an adult student, you may be interested in transferring into the Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS), an evening program on the Stafford campus or the Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS), a daytime program on the Fredericksburg campus. A minimum of 30 credit hours is required for admission as well as other criteria.
