UMW'S ECONOMIC IMPACT 

CareerAn economic impact study commissioned by UMW shows that the institution and its employees, students, visitors, and retirees spent $74.3 million within the Fredericksburg region in 2007, adding a total of $115.2 million to the local economy, supporting 1,014 non-university jobs and generating $24.9 million in new income to local residents. STUDENT-ALUMNI CAREER NETWORKING EVENT

The UMW Alumni Association and the UMW Office of Career Services invite you to join them for the annual Washington, D.C.-area Student/Alumni Career Networking Reception on Sunday, January 25, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Arlington. This casual  reception provides alumni an opportunity to help current Mary Washington students who are preparing to enter the job market. Alumni can share their experiences relating to various career paths, industry trends, graduate schools, and much more. If you would like to attend, visit www.umw.edu/alumni/events.

CELEBRATE REUNION WEEKEND MAY 28-31

Reunion LogoMark your calendar to return to Mary Washington for Reunion Weekend, which will be bigger and better than ever. Reunion this year includes increased opportunities for class get-togethers, a huge tent over Palmieri Plaza for the reunion picnic, and Saturday's children's activities.

Begin the weekend early with Thursday and Friday's "Alumni College," May 28 and 29. There you'll learn from UMW faculty and enjoy classes - without quizzes! Registration for Reunion Weekend will be available via mail and online in mid-March.

UMW ON THE ROAD

The University of Mary Washington invites alumni to meet President Judy G. Hample at several regional events this spring. Upcoming "UMW on the Road" events are scheduled in Naples, Palm Beach, Orlando, and Tampa, Florida. More locations will be announced soon.

$1.1 M GIFT WILL PROMOTE DIVERSITYDorsey Scholars Program

The Dorsey Scholars Program has been established through a $1.1 million Centennial Campaign gift from Paul R. and Mary Ann Dorsey Judy.  The program provides scholarships to select students from diverse backgrounds.  Several factors will be considered: race, ethnicity, culture, socioeconomic status, disability, religion and geography.  At least five students will receive the Dorsey Scholarship next academic year.
