OUTSTANDING ALUMNI TO BE HONORED AT REUNION
Reunion Weekend is right around the corner! Join us May 28 - 31 for a weekend full of activities. Highlights of the weekend include class get-togethers, the annual reunion picnic under a huge tent over Palmieri Plaza, children's activities, and much more. The Alumni Association will honor three outstanding graduates who will receive awards on Saturday, May 30, at the Reunion banquet. Catherine O’Connor Woteki ’69 will receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award. Barbara Burton Micou ’69 will receive the Frances Liebenow Armstrong ’36 Award for service to the Alumni Association and the University. Natalie Joy Johnson ’00 will receive the Young Alumnus Merit Award. To read more about the recipients, click here.
SIGN UP TODAY FOR ALUMNI COLLEGE
This two-day educational event is the perfect opportunity to step back into the classroom with UMW professors on both campuses. Expect exciting "classes without quizzes" taught by knowledgeable professors in a fun and friendly setting. Topics to be explored include poetry, art, autism, historic preservation, China, the economy, and understanding the brain and aging. ALUMNI COLLEGE is May 28 and May 29; registration is open to all. Fee is $95 per person and includes lunch each day, one breakfast, and a reception at the Ridderhof Martin Gallery.

UMW has raised $75.7 million during its Centennial Campaign, exceeding its $75 million fund-raising goal more than a month ahead of schedule. The figure includes $32.3 million in new endowments, $25.6 million in capital projects and campus enhancements, and $17.8 million for the Fund for Mary Washington. FIRST LADY ADDRESSES GRADUATES 
Virginia First Lady Anne Holton delivered the commencement address for the class of 2009 on Saturday, May 9. Approximately 5,000 people, including graduates, family members, friends, and faculty, gathered in Ball Circle for the 98th annual commencement. In her address, Holton urged today’s graduates to seize this time in their young lives to see the world, to volunteer, to immerse themselves in the adventures and opportunities ahead. CNN recently recognized Shin Fujiyama ’07 as a CNN Hero. Fujiyama is known for founding the non-profit group Students Helping Honduras while he was a UMW student. Since graduation, Fujiyama has continued to lead the organization and has helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in aid money. Each year, CNN honors unheralded people driven to exceptional achievement throughout the world by naming them CNN Heroes. Read more at www.umw.edu/news/?a=1713.
Demolition and site work continues with phase 1 of the Eagle Village development. Initially, 78,000 square feet of existing retail space will be demolished and many materials recycled.
