The class of 1948 will have their class picture taken at NOON on Saturday, May 31. The picture will be taken on the steps of Monroe Hall during the picnic luncheon.

Dear Class of 1948:

Here is a report to you from Lois, Whickey, Byrd, and Gerry. After the November letter to you and your good responses, we met in January to check the good current list and plan for our 60th Class Reunion. Our alumni office will be sending the full calendar soon, but our class has some special events you should know about.

First, we began with phone calls to Sarah, Bette, and Sandy. Next, Sandy invited the class to come to the Graves family home, Carlton (1776) at Falmouth. Zounds, what fun! Then we realized that just across the road from Carlton is Belmont, the home and studio of the Melchers. The Alumni office will help make it work for us to go on Saturday afternoon. So, here are some possibilities to consider:

A One Day Special: Saturday only: Seacobeck Breakfast, Campus Stroll on your own, Alumni Classes with favorite Profs, Lunch under a big tent at the Fountain Court by Willard and Virginia, Class Photo at Monroe. Carpool to Class Meeting and Reception. Back to campus for Celebration Dinner, and Dessert "Under the Stars".

A Weekend Special: Friday: Alumni College Events, Campus Update, Walking Tours of Academic and Residence Buildings, Galleries, Libraries and Bookstore, Opening Reception at Brompton; Chat Room at Best Western: (540) 370-5050 (Rooms reserved until May 1). Saturday: As above. Sunday: Farewell Brunch.

We also need to report that our “Class of 1948 Ellen Alvey Montller Endowment” is now $70,000, the interest from which will continue to provide student scholarships. The Office of University Advancement encourages Endowments, so we voted to offer a special one for this occasion: The Class of 1948 E. Boyd Graves Endowment for Historic Preservation.

When Sandy heard of this proposal she was heartened, with note of his many activities which prove him most worthy of such an honor. It is hoped that the earnings from the endowment will further the cause of Historic Preservation at Mary Washington. Certainly, the Department Faculty is pleased by our designation and encouraged by the support for its program.

So, this spring of 2008, a Centennial year for our campus, let us mark our commencement for these precious years as most remarkable and rally to enjoy and to participate once again---even just for the fun of it. Please let us hear from you and hopefully see you soon.
