CLASS OF 1968 • 40th Reunion

May 30 - June 1, 2008

Click here for Friday night class dinner information!

Don't miss the performance "Celebrating the Cycle of Life through Art, Dance, Music, and Poetry" on Friday, May 30 at 3:30 p.m. This multi-modal presentation is directed by our own Carol Thayer Cox '68! Come to Dodd Auditorium in GW Hall for this special performance that is part of the Centennial schedule of events on campus.

The class of 1968 will have their class picture taken at 12:40 p.m. on Saturday, May 31. The picture will be taken on the steps of Monroe Hall during the picnic luncheon.

Hello, “Queens”!

1968 was the last class to have a May Queen (AKA – Sally Monroe) so I have dubbed us “the queens”. Dust off your tiaras and get ready for a great party weekend.  We are known as The Party Class by the Alumni Association so come to help us uphold our reputation.

The “Queens” will be staying in the brand new hotels in Central Park. The choices are The Hampton Inn & Suites, The Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites. A new road from Central Park will bring you to Route 1 without having to negotiate Route 3.  I have made arrangements for a room at Homewood Suites.  It has a living room so you are invited to congregate there when you’re free.  I’ll have snacks. Just bring what you would like to drink.

On Friday, May 30 after a 5pm Brompton reception, the Class of 1968 will start off the weekend with a dinner party at  7pm. We will gather at Ristorante Renato, 422 William St., Fredericksburg. The cost will be $30 per person (pay at the door) which will include an entrée (your choice of 4), a salad, bread, dessert and soda, iced tea or coffee.  All gratuities and taxes are also included.  A cash bar will be available. Free parking is located next to the restaurant. We will have a private dining room and may remain there until 1:30a.m. Time for lots of catching up!

To mark its centennial year UMW is compiling an archive of pictures from throughout its history. We would like to present to the school a CD of pictures from the Class of 1968. Pull out your scrapbooks and email your treasured photos to garybeck@comcast.net  by May 25, 2008. We will have a slide show of the pictures at Friday’s party.

Donna Sheehan Gladis, et al. have done a phenomenal job of raising money for our class.  We salute her and her committee for making us shine! It’s not too late to join the band. Send your contributions to The University of Mary Washington Foundation, 1119 Hanover Street, Fredericksburg, VA  22401.

Watch your mail for the reunion reservation information which will be forthcoming. Information may also be found on the reunion website – www.umw.edu/alumni. Meanwhile, if you have any questions call me at 410-526-3353 or email me at garybeck@comcast.net.

Call someone you would like to see!  The momentum is building! YOU can keep it going! I talked to Kathy Ormond in Iowa last month. She has not been back in 40 years - she’s coming!  WE NEED YOU, TOO!

                                 CAN’T WAIT!!!!!

Sincerely,
Judith H. Beck
