June 22, 2009University of Mary Washington junior left fielder WILL WRIGHT (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Priory) has captured the NCAA Division III statistical championship as the toughest player in all of Division III to strike out in 2009. June 19, 2009FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The University of Mary Washington has hired Andrew Carter as its head men's and women's rowing coach, according to UMW Athletic Director Dr. Edward Hegmann. Carter becomes the third head coach of the rowing programs, which are in their 12th year as a varsity sport at the school. "I'm very pleased to be taking the reigns from Phil (Schmehl)," said Carter. "Rowing at UMW has come a long way in a brief period of time, and building on that foundation is an exciting prospect. Dr. Hegmann has made clear the University's intent to have top-notch rowing teams and I'm excited to be part of that vision. I'm looking forward to meeting the team as a whole and getting started." » Read more

June 19, 2009Recent University of Mary Washington graduate JUSTIN GERMAN (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) has been named to the third team of the College Sports information Directors' Association's college division Academic All-America team, as released today. German, an indoor track All-American in the high jump this winter, was earlier named the UMW Male-Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and posted a 3.77 cumulative GPA with a major in political science. German is UMW's first CoSIDA Academic All-America since 2004.
