Baker, Hickey, Mitchell Named to D3hoops.com's All-Region Teams; Hickey Named Region Player of the Year

University of Mary Washington senior center Liz Hickey added to her already-crowded trophy case on Wednesday, as she was named the women's Atlantic Region Player of the Year by D3hoops.com. Hickey, the all-time NCAA Division III blocked shots leader, was joined on the women's all-region team by junior forward Ashton Mitchell, while the men's team saw senior Justin Baker named to the All-Mid Atlantic region team. •more

Baker, Hale Named All-CAC in Men's Basketball; Wood Named CAC Coach of the Year

University of Mary Washington senior Justin Baker (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and junior Matt Hale (Centreville, Va./Westfield) have been named to the 2008 All-Capital Athletic Conference men's basketball team. UMW head coach Rod Wood was named the CAC Coach of the Year for the Eagles' 18-9 season and advancement to the conference title game. •more

The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team dropped an 82-72 decision to St. Mary's College in the championship game of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday, ending the season with a record of 18-9. Sophomore guard Ben Stokes scored a game-high 21 points and senior guard Justin Baker scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to a 75-65 win over Marymount University in the Capital Athletic Conference semifinals on Thursday night. Junior guard Matt Hale added 13 points for the Eagles who improve to 18-8 on the season and will host the CAC Championship game for the second time in school history. •more

Senior forward Jon Pierce scored 18 points to lead five players in double figures as the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team topped Villa Julie College, 75-62, in the regular season finale and gain the second seed in next week's Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. Brandon Altman scored 15, Matt Hale 13, Justin Baker 12, and Qaiser Ahmed 11 for the Eagles, who will host Villa Julie again on Tuesday in the CAC Quarterfinals at Goolrick Gymnasium at 8:00 p.m. •more

UMW Basketball to Raise Funds for Erin Peterson Fund on January 19

The University of Mary Washington will be dedicating both the men's and women's basketball games on January 19th vs. Wesley College to Erin Peterson, who was one of 32 Virginia Tech students killed in April, 2007. All donations raised during that game will go to the Erin Peterson Fund. •more
