Mitchell, Larson Named All-State by Richmond Times-Dispatch
March 25, 2009University of Mary Washington seniors Ashton Mitchell and Katy Larson were both named to the Richmond Times-Dispatch's All-State College Division Women's Basketball Team, named on Wednesday. Both Mitchell, who averaged 10.8 PPG and 6.8 RPG, and Larson, a first team All-Capital Athletic Conference selection, were selected to the second team. The duo, along with Kaitie Clarkin, finished their careers with the highest winning percentage in school history (111 wins, 14 losses, 88.8% winning pct.).

March 19, 2009University of Mary Washington basketball players BRANDON ALTMANN (Vienna, Va./Madison) and ASHTON MITCHELL (Prince George, Va./Prince George) have been named to the D3Hoops.com all-region basketball teams. Both Altmann and Mitchell were named as second team selections.

UMW Women's Basketball Falls to Stevens in NCAA Tournament 1st Round, 59-50
March 6, 2009The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team shot just 26.9% from the floor in falling to Stevens institute of Technology in the first round of the NCAA Divisiion III Tournament in new York City on Friday evening. The Eagles close the season with an overall record of 23-6.

March 3, 2009University of Mary Waqshington seniors Katy Larson (McGaheysville, Va./Spotswood) and Ashton Mitchell (Prince George, Va./Prince George) have been named to the 2009 All-Capital Athletic Conference teams, as voted on by the league's coaches. Freshman guard Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va./Madison) was selected as the league's Rookie of the Year.

UMW Women's Basketball Wins Third Straight CAC Title; Tops #5 York, 67-56, in CAC Championship
February 28, 2009Freshman Katie Wimmer scored a team-high 14 points and added 10 rebounds to pace four Eagles in double figures, as the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team defeated fifth-ranked York College, 67-56, in the 2009 Capital Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday at Charles Wolf Gymnasium on the campus of York College. With the win, the Eagles capture their third straight CAC title, and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight year.

UMW Women's Basketball Tops Marymount, 77-70, in CAC Semifinals
February 26, 2009Senior guard Katy Larson scored 23 points and dished out seven assists, and freshman Katie Wimmer added five free throws in the final 33 seconds to lead the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 77-70 victory at Marymount University in the Capital Athletic Conference semifinals on Thursday in Arlington, Va. The Eagles will visit York College in the CAC Championship on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

McRae Leads UMW Women's Basketball Past St. Mary's in CAC Tournament 1st Round
February 24, 2009Freshman guard Jenna McRae scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 66-34 victory over St. Mary's College in the first round of the 2009 Capital Athletic Conference Tournament on Tuesday at Goolrick Gymnasium. The Eagles, 21-5 on the season, will visit second seeded Marymount University on Thursday in the semifinals at 7:00 p.m.

UMW Women's Basketball Tops Stevenson, 60-26, for 20th Win in Regular Season Finale
February 21, 2009The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team closed the regular season with a 60-26 victory over Stevenson University on Saturday at Goolrick Gymnasium. The win is the Eagles' 20th of the season, marking the fifth straight season the Eagles have surpassed 20 victories.

UMW Basketball to Raise Awareness for Fight Against Cancer at February 18 Doubleheader vs. Wesley College
February 17, 2009The University of Mary Washington women's and men's basketball teams will help the fight for a cure for cancer at its February 18 doubleheader against Capital Athletic Conference foe Wesley College. At halftime of the women's game, 10 volunteers will donate 10 inches of their hair for the Locks of Love program, which makes wigs for children with cancer. In addition the women's team will don pink warmups in support of the fight against breast cancer through the "Pink Zone" program.

February 14, 2009Twenty-fourth ranked Marymount University saw five players reach double figures in defeating #25 Mary Washington, 87-75, on Saturday in Arlington, Va. The Eagles fall to 18-5 on the season, and 10-4 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

February 11, 2009Senior forward Ashton Mitchell scored her 1,000th career point as one of four Eagles in double figures as the 25th ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team defeated St. Mary's College, 73-42, on Wednesday night in Capital Athletic Conference action at Goolrick Gymnasium. The Eagles improve to 18-4 overall, and 10-3 in CAC play.

#25 UMW Women's Basketball Falls in Finals Seconds at #14 York, 59-56
February 2, 2009The 25th ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team saw 14th ranked York College hit a game winning three pointer with four seconds remaining in a 59-56 defeat to the Spartans on Monday night in a battle of nationally ranked squads in Capital Athletic Conference action at Wolf Gymnasium. The Eagles fall to 16-4 on the season, and 8-3 in CAC play, while the Spartans improve to 19-1 and 11-0.
UMW Freshman Jenna McRae Named CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week
February 2, 2009Mary Washington freshman guard JENNA McRAE (Springfield, Va./Annandale) was named the CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the first time in her career after averaging 17 points in a pair of wins for the Eagles, who are tied with Marymount as the 25th-ranked team in the country, according to the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Division III poll. McRae doubled her season average with a game-high 21 points, including five long-range shots, in a midweek win over Salisbury. She then added 13 scores, six boards and four assists in Saturday's victory at Hood.

January 24, 2009Freshman Katie Wimmer scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the 19th ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 66-47 victory at Stevenson University on Saturday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference play. The Eagles improve to 14-3 overall, and 6-2 in CAC action.
