UMW's Hickey Named WBCA State Farm Women's Basketball All-American
March 21, 2008University of Mary Washington center Liz Hickey (Virginia Beach, Va./Bishop Sullivan) concluded her brilliant career as a 2008 Women's Basketball Coaches Association State Farm All-America selection, as was released today. Hickey, the only player in NCAA Division III history with more than 500 career blocked shots, averaged 14.5 PPG and 8.7 rebounds per game this season. She blocked 509 shots in her four-year career, the most in Division III history, closed her career with 1,370 points and 938 rebounds. She earns All-America honors for the third straight year, and claims WBCA All-America honors for the first time. •more
Baker, Hickey, Mitchell Named to D3hoops.com's All-Region Teams; Hickey Named Region Player of the Year
March 19, 2008University of Mary Washington senior center Liz Hickey added to her already-crowded trophy case on Wednesday, as she was named the women's Atlantic Region Player of the Year by D3hoops.com. Hickey, the all-time NCAA Division III blocked shots leader, was joined on the women's all-region team by junior forward Ashton Mitchell, while the men's team saw senior Justin Baker named to the All-Mid Atlantic region team. •more

UMW Women's Basketball Falls to Tufts in NCAA Sweet 16, 48-45
March 14, 2008Inspired by the play of injured forward Ashton Mitchell, who played 11 minutes despite playing with a torn ACL, the University of Mary Washington battled to the end, but fell, 48-45, to Tufts University in the sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III Tournament in Grantham, Pa. on Friday. •more

#4 UMW Women's Basketball Tops TCNJ, 56-50, in 2nd Round of NCAA Tournament
March 8, 2008The fourth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team struggled offensively but used its defense to capture a 56-50 victory over the College of New Jersey in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament. The Eagles improve to 28-2 on the season, and will face Tufts University in the sweet 16 next Friday at Messiah College at a time to be announced on Tuesday. •more

#4 UMW Women's Basketball Tops Baruch, 73-58, in NCAA Tourney First Round
March 7, 2008Junior guard Katy Larson scored 18 points and senior center Liz Hickey added 17 points, 13 rebounds, and blocked four shots to surpass the 500-block plateau for her career in a 73-58 victory over Baruch College on Friday evening in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Eagles advance to host the College of New Jersey in the second round on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. •more
UMW Women's Basketball to Host 1st and 2nd Round of NCAA Tournament This Weekend
March 7, 2008The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team will host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, Bridgewater College (Va.) will face The College of New Jersey at 4:00 p.m., followed by UMW hosting Baruch College (N.Y.) at 6:30 p.m. Saturday's second round game will be played at 5:00 p.m. •more
UMW's Hickey, Mitchell Named First Team All-CAC; Hickey, Applebury Claim Player and Coach of the Year
March 5, 2008Senior center Liz Hickey (Virginia Beach, Va./Bishop Sullivan) repeated as the Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year, and joined junior forward Ashton Mitchell (Prince George, Va./Prince George) on the All-CAC first team, as voted on by the league's coaches. UMW head coach Deena Applebury was named the CAC Coach of the Year for the fourth straight year after helping the Eagles to their third CAC Championship in four years. •more

March 1, 2008Junior forward Ashton Mitchell scored 23 points and hauled in nine rebounds, and senior center Liz Hickey scored 17 points and grabbed 11 boards to pace the fifth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 90-59 victory over Marymount University in the 2008 Capital Athletic Conference championship game. February 26, 2008Senior All-America center Liz Hickey scored 21 points to lead the fifth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to an 84-34 victory over Hood College on Tuesday night in Capital Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinal action at Goolrick Gymnasium. Hickey Named Finalist for Jostens Award
February 26, 2008University of Mary Washington All-America center Liz Hickey (Virginia Beach, Va./Bishop Sullivan) has been named one of 10 finalists for the Jostens award, given to the top player in NCAA Division III basketball by the Salem, Va. Rotary Club. Hickey, who leads UMW with 14.3 PPG and 8.6 rebounds per game, recently broke the NCAA Division III career blocked shots record. •more
#6 UMW Women's Basketball Tops Villa Julie to Close Regular Season at 23-2
February 23, 2008Junior forward Ashton Mitchell scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the sixth ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 75-32 win at Villa Julie College on Saturday in the regular season finale. February 20, 2008Senior All-America center Liz Hickey scored a game-high 23 points, added 10 rebounds, and blocked five shots in breaking the NCAA Division III career blocked shots record as the sixth ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team defeated Wesley College, 74-46, on Wednesday night in Dover, Del. Hickey now has 487 career blocked shots, two more than 1997 Marymount University alumnus Cori Carson, who held the record with 485 blocks. •more

February 16, 2008The fourth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team rebounded from its first Capital Athletic Conference loss of the year with an 81-50 victory over 22nd-ranked Marymount University on Saturday before a packed Goolrick Gymnasium. The Eagles, 21-2 overall and 13-1 in CAC play, take the lead in the chase for the top seed in the CAC Tournament. •more

February 5, 2008Senior center Liz Hickey had 12 points, six rebounds, and five blocked shots to pace the fourth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to an 81-56 win over visiting Bridgewater College at Goolrick Gymnasium on Tuesday evening. Junior Ashton Mitchell added 12 points and senior point guard Amanda Bates scored 11 points and added five rebounds and four steals for the Eagles, now 19-1 on the season. •more

January 26, 2008Senior All-America center Liz Hickey scored 22 points and added 10 rebounds and nine blocked shots to lead the third/fourth ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 72-54 win at Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action. Junior forward Ashton Mitchell added 12 points and nine rebounds, and Amanda Bates and Lisa Tracy each scored 11 for UMW, who improves to 16-1 and 9-0 in CAC action. •more
