UMW Women's Soccer Head Coach Corey Hewson

corey hewsonCorey Hewson has been named as the head women's soccer coach at the University of Mary Washington, as confirmed by UMW Athletic Director Ed Hegmann. Hewson, who has served as an assistant coach for the Eagles for the past seven years, becomes the third coach in the 22-year history of the program, following Pete Ginnegar and Kurt Glaeser. Glaeser will remain with the university as a single-sport coach for men's lacrosse.

"Corey has been in the UMW family for six years and is no stranger to the program. Therefore the experience and knowledge of UMW women's soccer will be valuable as he makes the tranisition from assistant coach to head coach," said Hegmann. "It's always nice when you're able to promote from within, and reward excellence in coaching."

A 1999 graduate of Shippensburg University, Hewson was a three year starter, with 15 career assists. He served as a graduate assistant at Alfred University with the men's program in fall 1999, and has an NSCAA Advanced National License Distinguished Pass.

Hewson's wife, Heather, is a 2000 Mary Washington graduate. The couple, their daughter (Alex), and their German Shorthair Pointers (Reagan and Truman), live in Fredericksburg. He is Executive Board Member of the river conservation group, Friends of the Rappahannock.
