Rowell, Petrella Named to NFCA All-Region Team
May 6, 2009University of Mary Washington senior pitcher Kirsten Rowell (Alexandria, Va./Mount Vernon) and junior shortstop Katilin Petrella (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) were named to the National Fastpitch Coches Association's All-Atlantic Region team, as named on Wednesday.

UMW Softball Advances To and Falls in CAC Championship
April 19, 2009The University of Mary Washington softball team defeated York College, 2-1, in 12 innings, before falling to Salisbury University, 8-0, in the Capital Athletic Conference Championship on Sunday in Salisbury, Md. The Eagles close the season with a record of 25-16-1.

April 18, 2009The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a 3-0 decision at Salisbury University in the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday. The Eagles will face York College in the tournament on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.

Rowell Paces UMW Softball Past York in CAC Tourney, 3-0
April 17, 2009Senior pitcher Kirsten Rowell allowed just two hits and struck out 10 batters to lead the University of Mary Washington softball team to a 3-0 victory over York College in the second round of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament on Friday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 24-14-1 on the season.
UMW Softball Closes Regular Season with CAC Sweep of Stevenson, 14-1 and 2-1
April 10, 2009The University of Mary Washington softball team saw its senior class play its final home doubleheader on Friday, and each member of the class played a key role as the Eagles topped Stevenson University, 14-1, and 2-1. The Eagles will host a game in the CAC Tournament, either on Tuesday or Thursday of next week.
UMW Softball Splits at Virginia Wesleyan
April 8, 2009The University of Mary Washington softball team split its Wednesday doubleheader at Virginia Wesleyan College, winning the first game, 3-1, and falling in the bottom of the seventh of the second, 2-1. The Eagles move to 21-14 on the season.
UMW Softball Drops Pair at Salisbury University
April 4, 2009The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader at Salisbury University on Saturday, 7-0 and 9-1. The Eagles fall to 20-13 on the season, and 7-3 in CAC play.
UMW Softball Drops Twinbill at Shenandoah University
April 2, 2009The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a Thursday doubleheader at Shenandoah University on Thursday, falling to 20-11 on the season. Game scores were 5-3 and 4-3.
Rowell Again Named CAC Softball Player of the Week
March 30, 2009Mary Washington senior pitcher KIRSTEN ROWELL (Alexandria, Va./Mount Vernon) and Salisbury junior catcher LAUREN BRENNEMAN (York, Pa./Central York) were each named the CAC Softball Players of the Week for the second time this season after leading their teams last week. Rowell suffered a 1-0 loss to Messiah, but allowed just three hits and no walks while fanning 10. Later in the week, the UMW senior struck out 12 and allowed just one hit and no walks in a win over Gallaudet. Brenneman batted .700 (7-for-10) with two doubles, a triple and a homer, scored eight runs and knocked in nine scores as Salisbury went 4-0 last week, including doubleheader sweeps against CAC rivals Wesley and Hood.

March 30, 2009The University of Mary Washington softball team split its Monday Capital Athletic Conference fdoubleheader with York College, winning the opener with a walkoff home run by Kaitlin Petrella, 3-1, and falling in the nightcap, 3-0. UMW moves its season record to 20-9 overall, and 7-1 in CAC play.
UMW Softball Sweeps Gallaudet in CAC Twinbill, 2-1 and 10-0
March 25, 2009The University of Mary Washington softball team swept a doubleheader from Gallaudet University on Wednesday at the Battleground in Capital Athletic Conference action, 2-1 and 10-0. The Eagles improve to 19-8 on the season, and 6-0 in CAC play.

March 24, 2009The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a doubleheader to Messiah College, 1-0 in eight innings and 3-0, on Tuesday at the Battleground. UMW falls to 17-8 on the season.
UMW's Kleman Named CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week: Rowell Receives Honorable Mention
March 23, 2009MEN'S LACROSSE Mary Washington sophomore goalkeeper RYAN KLEMAN (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) was named the CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week after recording 32 saves, a 62.5 save percentage and allowing just 7.55 goals against in two non-conference wins. Kleman opened the week with 16 stops in a 12-7 win over SUNY-Plattsburgh, then rejected another 16 shots in a 12-4 win over Randolph-Macon, which was ranking among others receiving votes in last week's USILA Top 20 poll. UMW's Kirsten Rowell received special recognition for breaking the school season strikeout record this week.

March 22, 2009The University of Mary Washington softball team swept a doubleheader from Wesley College in a Sunday Capital Athletic Conference twinbill in Dover, Del. The Eagles, who won, 4-1 and 5-3, improve to 17-6 on the season, and 4-0 in CAC play.

March 21, 2009The University of Mary Washington softball team swept a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader from Hood College, 2-0 and 5-3, on Saturday in both teams' conference opener. The Eagles improve to 15-6 overall.

March 18, 2009The University of Mary Washington softball team split its Wednesday doubleheader with SUNY Plattsburgh, winning the first game, 1-0, in eight innings, and falling in the nightcap, 2-1. UMW moves to 13-6 on the season.

UMW's Kirsten Rowell Named Atlantic Region Player of the Week by Division III Softball-The Newsletter
March 18, 2009University of Mary Washington senior pitcher KIRSTEN ROWELL (Alexandria, Va./Mount Vernon) has been named as the Atlantic Region Player of the Week by Division III Softball-The Newsletter. Rowell, the CAC Player of the Week as well this week, recorded four pitching victories, including two complete-game shutouts, and improved her season record to 9-1 with a 0.70 ERA. In 34 innings this week, Rowell allowed just 16 hits while fanning 61 batters. Rowell allowed three hits in a 2-0 shutout vs. Mary Baldwin and one safety in an 8-0 victory over Wilkes.

March 14, 2009The University of Mary Washington softball team swept a pair of games at the Salisbury University Tournament on Saturday to improve to 3-1 in the event and 12-5 overall. The Eagles topped Cabrini College, 7-3, before blanking Wilkes University, 8-0.
