UMW's Justin German Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Team

Recent University of Mary Washington graduate JUSTIN GERMAN (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) has been named to the third team of the College Sports information Directors' Association's college division Academic All-America team, as released today. German, an indoor track All-American in the high jump this winter, was earlier named the UMW Male-Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and posted a 3.77 cumulative GPA with a major in political science. German is UMW's first CoSIDA Academic All-America since 2004.

UMW's Winchester Competes in 400 Meter Hurdles at NCAA Track Championships

University of Mary Washington senior MAE WINCHESTER (Yorktown, Va./Yorktown) finished in third place in her heat in the 400 meter hurdles at the 2009 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships, held on Thursday at Marietta (OH) College. Winchester, an All-American a season ago, ran a time of 1:03.05.

German Clears 6-8.25 in High Jump at Bridgewater Last Chance Meet

University of Mary Washington senior Justin German (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) improved his season-best height and improved his chances of qualifying for the NCAA Championships with a leap of six feet, 8.25 inches at the Bridgewater College Last Chance Meet on Wednesday. Official word on selections will come on Sunday.

UMW's Horrigan Named CAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week

Mary Washington freshman BRITTANY HORRIGAN (Reading, Mass./Reading) was named the CAC Women's Track & Field Co-Athlete Of The Week for her gold medal throwing performance this weekend. Horrigan broke her own school record for the fourth time this season, winning the javelin against primarily NCAA Division I competition at the George Mason Invitational on Saturday. Horrigan's effort of 38.75m (127-1) provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Division III championship.

UMW Women's Track & Field Wins 16th Straight CAC Title; Men Place 2nd

The University of Mary Washington women's track and field team won its 16th straight Capital Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday at the Battleground, while the Eagle men finished in second place in the men's championship. The Eagle women saw nine competitors take first place finishes, while the men saw six first place winners.

UMW Track & Field Hosts Day One of Battleground Relays

The University of Mary Washington outdoor track and field teams are hosting the Battleground Relays this weekend, with action starting on Friday afternoon. For the Eagles, winners on Friday included Kira Runkle in the 10,000 meters (41:31.10), the women's 4x800 meter relay (9:43.24), Frank DeVar in the 3,000 meters (8:55.81), the men's 4x800 relay (7:54.51), and Matt Geller in the hammer throw (155 feet, six inches).
