Essential Sites

While the web has a lot of great, free career resources, there are several great sites that you can only get access to for a fee. The good news is that these sites below are free to you.

ERECRUITING

This site contains:
1. Job and internship listing that specifically target Mary Washington students.
2. An alumni mentor section that lists alumni willing to give advice on career related topics.
3. A place to upload your résumé so that it can be seen by employers.
4. A place to signup for on-campus interviews.
5. A link to Experience, a site with career information.

Follow the directions on the login page. Students may self register, but contact Career Services to get full access after you register.

Career Search

A database of over four million organizations that can be searched by type and location. It also has information on specific cities and a salary information. (Paid for by the Parents Council).
The site also provides a salary calculator, and information about specific cities and countries.

You can now self-register by clicking on the Career Search link above. It will take you to the log in screen. Click on “Create an Account Now” under new users and fill in the fields. The first box is for the referral key which is: umw04
After filling in the boxes accordingly you will be brought back to the screen above with all the boxes under “Returning Users” filled in. Click on “Log in Now”. You are now in your own CareerSearch account!

The Vault online career library

Download over 90 books in adobe format, conduct company or industry research, review career advice, watch career videos, and participate in message boards. A UMW email address is required for access. A password will be sent to your UMW email account a few minutes after you request one.

MyPlan

This new assessment tool can help you explore careers, majors and more. Contact Career Services for a license code and follow the directions after clicking on the link above. You will create your own username and password. Enter the license code on the second page of the "create an account" section. All of the assessments are free for UMW students.

Internships.com

This is a new resource with national internship listings. To use the site:

  1. Go to: www.internships.com
  2. Click on ‘Go to Premium Pages’.
  3. Select your School Name from the drop-down menu.
  4. Enter your Promo Code: Eagle  (This will only need to be done on the first entry to site. The Promo Code will need to be given to students to register to use the site.)
  5. You will then be prompted to enter your name, email, and password.  Click ‘Sign Up’.
  6. Enter your email and password again.  Click ‘Login’.

 

Internships USA

This is a database of internships, broken into specific career fields.
Our new username is intern08 and the password is work.
