Recruiting Policies And Procedures
Recruiting on campus provides the opportunity for various organizations to interview graduating students on campus for full-time jobs after graduation. Graduate schools will also arrange recruiting dates to meet with students individually or in small groups to discuss their programs of study. Recruiting generally takes place in October, November, January, February, March and April. On-campus recruiting is a convenient method for interviewing. Not all companies or organizations will interview on campus, so you need to use various methods in your search for employment. The How to Find a Job Workshop provides a system to help you develop job search techniques.
In order to handle the logistics of the On-Campus Recruiting Program and to be as fair as possible to all students, the following policies and procedures have been developed.
You must be a University of Mary Washington student completing your degree requirements in December, May, or August of the current academic year; or you must be completing the Teacher Licensure Program. Alumni may also participate if the organization is interested in interviewing alumni.
You must register on-line through eRecruiting/Experience.
For the most part, sign-ups for interviews will be on a first come, first serve basis. Sign-up will take place through eRecruiting and the schedule will open for sign-ups approximately 3 weeks prior to the interview. You must submit a résumé for each organization of interest to you. eRecruiting requires an on-line résumé be submitted in order to sign up for an interview slot.
For those organizations which choose to prescreen (review résumés and then select students for their on-campus interview schedules), you will need to submit your résumé from three to five weeks before the recruiting date. Check the recruiting schedule or information posted on eRecruiting for deadlines to submit your résumé. Check your eRecruiting account under "My Applications" to see if you have been selected for an interview.
The eRecruiting also includes job listings for companies not recruiting on-campus. Check the web site frequently for new position listings. Career Services also offers a Résumé Referral Service. This service provides student résumés to employers upon request. To participate in this service, you must upload your résumé to eRecruiting and then publish your résumé to a résumé book. Instructions for doing this are found by clicking on the "My Documents" icon.
Please sign up only for interviews which are of interest to you. If you want to practice interviewing, videotaped mock interviews are available as are Interviewing Skills Workshops. Recruiters frown upon using an interview for practice because they want to spend their time with students who are seriously interested in their organizations.
Be sure to review the organization's literature before your interview. The Office of Career Services or the organization's web site usually has that information. Career Search also provides information about companies.
NO SHOW POLICY
If you must cancel an interview, you need to do so 48 hours in advance. If you are sick the morning of your interview, call the Office of Career Services, at 540/654-1022 before 8:30 a.m. If you do not cancel and do not show for your interview, you must write a letter of apology to the recruiter. You will receive a letter from Career Services giving you a deadline to submit the letter of apology. If the copy of the letter is not submitted to the Office of Career Services by the deadline, you will automatically be removed from further interview schedules, and you will not be able to sign up for additional interviews.
In case of inclement weather, call Career Services at 540/654-1022 to verify interview schedules.
Due to space limitations, some interviews may not be held in Lee Hall. You must check in with the Office of Career Services 10 minutes before your interview. This allows enough time for us to direct you to where your interview will be held.
