Graduate School Programs And Information

Each fall, our office sponsors vans for UMW students wishing to attend the Graduate and Professional School Fairs. Check the Calendar of Events for specific dates and times for the Fair, as well as for the graduate school workshops that we offer.

In our  Career Resource Center, we keep numerous books on graduate school and financial aid, and an excellent video on applying to graduate school. We also have information on different test preparation courses (although we do not endorse any courses), and Kaplan periodically offers preparation classes on campus. Contact our office for more information.

Graduate School Resources

The Office of Career Services has a large number of print resources in the resource library. Complete sets of Peterson's Guides to Graduate Programs, volumes on specific topics such as getting into law school and information on various standardized tests are available.

Graduate school is not for everyone. A graduate degree will not make you automatically more marketable. In fact, in some cases an additional degree will make you less employable. In other situations--most MBA programs for example--previous experience is required before the school will consider your application. Those students who are most happy with their graduate school experience have thoroughly explored their degree program and have a clear idea of how the degree fits into their career plans. The Eagle Mentoring program, maintained in eRecruiting, has friends and alumni of the University of Mary Washington who are willing to discuss their graduate degree programs and careers.
