Mission Statement

The Office of Academic Affairs is committed to advancing University of Mary Washington's principal learning objective as stated in the University's mission statement: "that a broad, liberal education-one based upon freedom of inquiry, personal responsibility, and intellectual integrity-is the best preparation for citizenship and career." The Office participates in and oversees activities in matters regarding the faculty and faculty development, the curriculum, academic programs and academic support. All instructional departments report to the Office of Academic Affairs as do a number of key academic administration units such as Academic Services, the Registrar, International Academic Services, Disability Services, and Career Services. Important academic resource offices that report to the Office of Academic Affairs are the Library, and the Speaking and Writing Centers. By working with faculty, staff, and students, the Office of Academic Affairs aims to keep the pursuit of educational excellence at the forefront of the University's endeavors.
