GPA Calculator
It's a good idea to know what your semester GPA is and how that can impact your cumulative GPA and your graduation plans. If you are interested in calculating your UMW semester GPA, click on this link: GPA calculator. Experimenting with different grades that you might earn in a course can help you figure out what grades you need to make to attain a certain GPA. This is particularly helpful if you are trying to avoid probation or suspension, or are shooting for a certain GPA for a scholarship or internship.
Tips for using the downloadable GPA calculator
The "Letter Grade Earned" column doesn't change, so to see what your GPA would be by getting different grades in the same course, you must move the information you put in the "Course" and "# of Credits Attempted" columns to match the grade. For example, if you want to see what your GPA would be if you received a C versus a C+ in the three credit course MATH 110, you would need to enter MATH 110 in the "Course" column and 3 in the "# of Credits Attempted" column twice: once so that they line up with C in the "Letter Grade Earned" column, and once so that they line up with C+.
You may want to calculate your GPA using the same grade for more than one course. Say you are taking 12 hours and think you will get two B+s and two Cs. Disregard the "Course" column and simply increase the number of credits you enter under "# of Credits Attempted". (Six hours next to B+ and six hours next to C.)
Once you have entered the information under "Course" and "# of Credits Attempted" so that they line up with the grade you are interested in, click in the corresponding box under "Grade Points". You will then see the numbers change next to "Total Credits", "Total Quality Points", and "GPA".
