Welcome to the Digital Media Lab!

Open: Mon.-Fri., 8-5 p.m.
A dual-platform facility, the Digital Media Lab houses five Macintosh
G4s and five Dell computers. Each is equipped with software programs
for imaging, text layout, video processing, and multimedia and web production.
Upper-level studio art courses make use of its resources during
the year.
The Digital Media Lab is open only to students currently enrolled in
a course or individual study in the Department of Art & Art History
at UMW.
Hardware
In addition to the computers mentioned above, the Digital Media Lab is equipped with the following:
- black-and-white laser printer (pay-per-print available with student EagleOne Card)
- flatbed scanner
- internal CD burners
- Iomega 250 Zip Disk Readers
- Smart Disk Universal Reader
- digital camera (Canon G2 Powershot)*
- Sony Mini DV Digital Video Camera*
*These devices are available by permission only.
Software
The following software programs are available in the lab:
- 2-D Imaging: Adobe Photoshop
- Video Processing: Final Cut Pro, Apple iMovie
- Web Production: Dreamweaver
- Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Power Point
Lab Policy
All users must abide by the UMW Computer Usage Policy, as well as the following restrictions:
- Only students who are majors in this deaprtment, or are currently enrolled in ARTH/ARTS courses doing course-related work may use these computers.
- By using this lab you must abide by the UMW Computer Use Policy and the Honor Code. The UMW Computer Use Policy is located at http://www.umw.edu/policies/compol.htm
- No personal files are to be saved to the hard drive. The lab is not responsible for any files left on these machines.
- You may not download or install software on the computer's hard drives.
- No settings are to be changed on these computers (i.e. desktop pictures/screen savers, file sharing, etc.).
- No food or beverages are allowed in the lab at any time.
Note: if you are found in violation of any of the above policies, you will be asked to leave and it may result in your loss of lab privileges.
Student Aides
Student aides are hired each year to assist users in the lab, as well as maintain the computers. If you are interested in working as a lab aide, please contact the department coordinator (x2038).
