Senior Exhibition: Reception

Traditionally, an evening reception is held to celebrate the opening of a senior exhibit. All details of the event, including refreshments and music are the group's responsibility.

The Student Supervisors will arrange for the delivery and set up of tables and trash cans for your reception. The choice of food, drinks, and/or music is up to you.

Food
Students most often prepare refreshments on their own, but a few have arranged for catering, either through local restaurants or Wood Catering (on campus). Whatever you choose, keep in mind the number of guests and prepare accordingly.

Drinks
Punch, lemonade, and soda are popular drinks at receptions. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted.

Music
A little light jazz or other music selection often enhances the atmosphere of an opening reception but is not required. Past receptions have included both recorded and live music. (All musical selections must be approved by the Gallery Director.)

Klein Theatre

Ivy Chen, Aiwen, 2000The opening night of a senior exhibition sometimes coincides with either a rehearsal or performance in Klein Theatre (located just outside of duPont Gallery). In case this happens to you, please observe the following:

Rehearsal
Monitor all guests and clarify that the theater is off limits. Keep noise levels to a minimum.

Performance
All refreshments, tables, and trashcans must be removed no later than 30 minutes before a performance begins. This gives the theatre staff ample time to set up its own refreshment stand and to greet patrons.

Clean Up

Erin Martinelli, Untitled, 2001 After the reception is over, please attend to the following:

  1. Remove or store all tables, trash cans, etc. (If tables and trash cans were provided by Facilities Services, store them in a safe area to be picked up.)
  2. Bag all trash and dispose of it in the dumpster behind Melcher's Hall.
