Student Representatives
Nominations & Election: Late Spring 2008

Each year student representatives are needed for the following positions: Art History, Studio Art, the Galleries Advisory Committee, and the Visiting Artists & Speakers Committee. As a representative, the student acts as an intermediary between department faculty (or committee) and their peers.
The Positions
Art History & Studio Art Representatives
The art history and studio art representatives voice the concerns and needs of majors to department faculty. They must attend all department meetings and hold at least two peer meetings a semester. They must also keep minutes from the peer meetings and post them (and other pertinent information) on designated bulletin boards in Melchers.
The art history and studio art representatives may also be asked to represent the department at campus activities (including UMW Academic Life, Spring Preview Weekend, etc.) or be assigned other tasks by the Chair (rare).
Galleries Advisory Committee Representative (appointed)
The gallery representative serves as the student liaison on UMW Galleries concerns and business. He or she must attend all gallery committee meetings (see the gallery director for dates), as well as department meetings.
Visiting Artists & Speakers Committee
The VASP representative serves as the student liaison on matters related to bringing in visitings artists and speakers to UMW. He or she must attend all committee meetings (see the faculty representative for dates) as well as department meetings.

Election Process
Nomination of student representatives will occur towards the end of spring semester. An envelope for nominations will be attached to the door of the department office (Melchers 217), and both students and faculty from the Department of Art & Art History may vote.
Election of student representative will take place the week after nominations. A list of all nominees, along with a voting envelope, will be attached to the same door. (Nominees may decline to run.)
The student with the most votes in one area will be elected to serve as representative.
