Prospectives FAQ
Does application to UMW and the studio art program require
a portfolio?
No. A portfolio of work is not required to either apply to the University
of Mary Washington or declare as a major in studio art. Once declared
as majors, studio art students are required to submit a portfolio for
Major Assessment by their junior year (of work completed in the major).
Does more than one course share a studio in the same semester?
At this time, only one course meets in a studio for the majority
of upper-level studio art courses (including drawing, painting, and
printmaking). This allows for ample storage space within the studio
and more time to work on projects outside of class.
