Media & Departmental Awards

photo - students and art Each year the Department of Art & Art History offers numerous media and departmental awards for outstanding student work.

Media Awards

Media awards are offered each year for student work in ceramics, digital media, drawing, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, textile design, and watercolor.

Selected by an independent juror, these monetary awards are given for works in the Annual Student Art Exhibition (held each spring). The juror may select one award and up to two honorable mentions (non-monetary) in each medium.

Departmental Awards

Several endowed awards are also available each year to deserving studio art majors. They include the Ann Elizabeth Collins Award in Graphic Arts, the Ann Elekes Nichols Award, the Melchers Gray Purchase Award in Studio Art, and the Emil Schnellock Award for Excellence in Painting, selected by studio art faculty or an independent juror, recipients of these awards are announced at the Annual Student Art Exhibition in the spring.

Ann Elizabeth Collins Award in Graphic Arts

Established in memory of Ann Elizabeth Collins ('73) by friends relatives, and faculty, this endowed award is given to the student who demonstrates great potential in graphic media.

Ann Helene Elekes Nichols Award in Studio Art

Established in memory of Ann Elekes Nichols ('61) by her husband, Dr. John Nichols.

Amber Bacskocky

Melchers Gray Purchase Award in Studio Art This award is used to purchase one to two outstanding works from the Annual Student Art Exhibition. The selected work becomes part of the college's permanent collection. Robert Lynn

Emil Schnellock Award for Excellence in Painting

Given in recognition of excellence in painting by the Department of Art & Art History. (Recipient chosen by an independent juror of the Annual Student Art Exhibition.)
