The Department of Biological Sciences is located in The Jepson Science Center. The Center, which opened in 1998, is a 75,000 square foot facility that houses the offices, laboratories, and classrooms of the four natural sciences departments at UMW. The majority of the laboratories and offices of the Biological Sciences Department are located on the third and fourth floors of the building. |
| Our Teaching Labs | |

Our 7 teaching labs are reserved to serve the laboratory components of the biology courses at UMW. The labs are equipped with fume hoods, incubators, water baths, refrigerators, and computers, and the student stations are networked for internet access. Each laboratory accomodates a strict limit of 24 students. |
| Our Research Labs | |

Our research labs are specialized facilities designed to support undergraduate and faculty research. They also support some of the highly specialized work that goes on in our teaching labs. Each research lab is equipped with a variety of specialized equipment.

| Our Computer Labs | |

The Science Literacy Center computing facility and our 4th floor computer lab provide the needed computer support for biology students working in the Jepson Science Center. |
| Classrooms | |

The Jepson Science Center also has 3 large classrooms capable of handling classes of up to 70 students. The Mary W. Pinschmidt Lecture Hall is equipped to handle class sizes of up to 80 students. It is named after Mary Pinschmidt, a long-time professor of Biology. |
