BLS Leave of Absence
Withdrawing from UMW BEFORE Classes Start
If you withdraw from UMW before classes begin, and plan to return to UMW within one year, you should fill out a Leave of Absence form. Doing so will insure that you remain on the mailing list for registration materials even though you are not enrolled in a class. If you withdraw from all classes before classes begin, you must also complete the cancellation of course form. Skipping a summer doesn't require an LOA form; skipping either the fall or spring does.
Withdrawing from UMW AFTER Classes Start
If you withdraw from the University after classes start during any semester (by filling out a withdrawal form and dropping all the courses for which you have registered), you should also ask to be put on a Leave of Absence. Withdrawal forms must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar. To start classes again in the following term (assuming your academic record is satisfactory), you will need to submit the $140.00 Declaration to Continue fee to the appropriate Office of Student Accounts.
LOA After Finishing a Semester
You can maintain your status in your degree program without taking classes by filling out a Leave of Absence for any semester in which you will be unable to take a course. As long as your academic record is satisfactory, to start classes again in the following term, you must submit the $140.00 continuation fee to the Office of Student Accounts and register in the Office of the Registrar.
If you file an appropriate Leave of Absence form, the UNIVERSITY agrees:
- To readmit you (if you're in good academic standing) when you submit the continuation fee ($140.00).
- To allow you to re-enroll as a continuing student (if you have filed the continuation fee).
- To allow you to complete your degree program.
You agree:
- To make sure we know your correct address while you are on a Leave of Absence.
- To file a continuation fee at the appropriate time.
- To clear any outstanding debts to the College before taking a Leave of Absence.
Please Note: Your tuition deposit can only be transferred for one academic year unless you are taking classes elsewhere and forwarding the transcript to this office during your Leave of Absence.
