Chemistry is the study of structure, properties, and reactivity of matter. It has been called the "central science" because it forms a bridge between biology and physics. Chemistry is largely an experimental science and a great deal of knowledge comes from laboratory research.

This web site provides information about the chemistry department to faculty, students, perspective students and the UMW community. The site will focus on information about the major program, course offerings, facilities, and research within the department of chemistry. The site will also provide links to sites that support our educational program. The UMW Chemistry Department is approved by the American Chemical Society to grant certified degrees.
