The University of Mary Washington is celebrating its Centennial during the 2007-2008 academic year. To commemorate the anniversary, the Department of Chemistry commissioned a special periodic table, which is being created by several current UMW chemistry/art majors (Merida Marston and Nicole Young). The students are hand crafting two sets of 111 element tiles, each with the symbol, atomic weight, and a design appropriate to the element.

One set of these tiles will be arranged in a periodic table and displayed in the Jepson Science Center. The other set was sold in a silent auction as part of the Centennial celebration dinner on April 12, 2008. Each individual who purchases a tile will be recognized in a display near the periodic table. The proceeds of the auction will benefit the Department of Chemistry.
A few tiles remain for purchase and we hope that you will consider bidding on one or more of these unique element tiles. For more information, contact Kelli Slunt.
