At the core of Mary Washington's liberal arts and sciences education is a strong interpersonal relationship between faculty and students. In this section, we will introduce you to our department's faculty, their credentials, areas of expertise, professional activities and personal hobbies.
The chair of the Department of Education is Dr. Marie P. Sheckels. Dr. Sheckels is Professor of Mathematics and Education.
The Department of Education's past faculty members include Dr. James Farmer, a professor in the Department until from 1985 to 1998. Dr. Farmer was a principal founder of the Congress of Racial Equality and the last survivor of the "Big Four" who shaped the U.S. civil rights struggle in the mid-1950s and '60s.
