Student Organizations
Student Education Association
The Student Education Association at the University of Mary Washington is a pre-professional teaching organization dedicated to the promotion of the teaching profession. Membership in the SEA is open to all students enrolled in the Teacher Education Program at UMW as well as those who are interested in the teaching profession. Student membership benefits include membership in the state and national affiliates--the Virginia Education Association and the National Education Association. Student members receive many of the same benefits as teachers including subscriptions to professional journals, discounts at local stores, and up to one million dollars in liability insurance during their required field experience (practicum). Members have the opportunity for professional development through many events throughout the school year such as conferences, workshops, guest speakers, programs, leadership and service activities.

Since KDP is a National Education Honor Society, members must have at least 60 credit hours, a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0, and formal admission in the Teacher Education Program. Mary Washington's Nu Xi Chapter of KDP sponsors teacher development workshops and community service programs.
