CAREER SERVICES AT UMW
The office of Career Services offers many resources for UMW students and recent graduates. Some of those most useful to English and other humanities majors include interest testing, workshops on various aspects of job hunting, print resources on careers and graduate programs, internship opportunities, and opportunities for networking with UMW alums.
Workshops offered regularly include internships, resume writing, mock interviews, and interview skills. The on-campus recruiting program tends to attract employers looking for business and technical majors, but some of these employers recruit English majors. Career Services also offers annual programs on graduate school, careers in the non-profit sector, minority student careers, and other special programs. Resume review is available in person or via e-mail throughout the year.
Books available in the Career Services library include both general titles like Great Jobs for Liberal Arts Majors or Teaching English Abroad and more specific guidebooks like Career Opportunities in Advertising and Public Relations or Opportunities in Journalism Careers. A selection of guidebooks is also available online. Students are welcome to come browse at any time. To make an appointment with a career counselor call 654-1022 or drop by GW 305.
