Creative Writing Concentration Reading Series
FALL 2009

Poet Betty Adcock will read from her work on Thursday, 17 September at 5 PM in the parlor of the William Street House (1201 William—corner of College and William). Adcock is the author of five books of poetry, all from Louisiana State University Press. A recipient of two Pushcart Prizes, the Poets’ Prize, the North Carolina Medal for Literature, the Texas Institute of Letters Prize, and a Guggenheim Fellowship, Adcock teaches in the Warren Wilson College MFA Program for Writers. The event is sponsored by the University of Mary Washington’s Creative Writing Concentration and the department of English, Linguistics, and Communication, and is free and open to the public. A reception and book signing will follow the reading.

Sheryl St. Germain
Visiting poet and writer of creative nonfiction from Chatham University in Pittsburgh where she is the director of their MFA program. She will be reading from her new book of poetry, Let It Be a Dark Roux. A signing and reception will follow.

Margaret Gibson has received, among other prizes and awards, a National Endowment for the Arts Grant, a Lila Wallace/Reader’s Digest Fellowship, and grants from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts. She is Professor Emerita, University of Connecticut. A native of Richmond, Virginia, she now lives in Preston, Connecticut. She will be reading from her new book of poetry, One Body, published by LSU Press in 2007. A signing and reception will follow.
