GEOL/EESC 0306 Introductory Hydrology Laboratory Spring 2002
Meeting Time/Place: Monday from 9:00 - 10:50 in 109 Jepson
Instructor: Dr. Charles E. Whipkey, 432 Jepson
Phone: 654-1428 email: cwhipkey@umw.edu
Office Hours: To be announced
Suggested supplemental text: Fetter, C.W. (2001) Applied Hydrogeology, fourth edition
Laboratory Attendance: Attendance during the first hour of each session
is mandatory. During the first part of the lab, I will explain the current
assignment. After that, I will be available to help you get started
on the lab and to answer questions.
Exams: There will be two lab exams, one at about the mid-point of the semester and one during the final exam period. The final exam will not be cumulative. The format of these exams will be explained during the course of the semester.
Grading policy: Laboratory reports and exams will be graded on a percentage basis.
Laboratory report due dates: Unless otherwise stated, all laboratory reports are due one week after they are assigned, at the beginning of the next lab session. If you must turn in a lab assignment late, let me know in advance or it will not be accepted. Under no circumstances will lab reports be accepted after I have graded and returned other students' work (usually one week after due date).
Your work must be written legibly, with proper spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure. Drawings, graphs, and tables must be neat and clearly organized. Assignments that do not meet these standards will be returned unread.
Grading:
Exams 30%
Laboratory reports/field trip participation 70%
Total 100%
Final letter grades will be assigned on a percentage basis: 100-90% = A to A-, 89-80% = B+ to B-, etc. The instructor reserves the right to adjust grades based on class attendance and participation.
