Career Opportunities

Training in the geological sciences is a good background for students interested in a wide variety of engaging and challenging careers.  Former Mary Washington College geology students have found rewarding jobs in the following fields: 

  • Scientific or technical editing of journals and industry magazines
  • Teaching the earth sciences at the secondary level
  • Environmental consulting and site assessments
  • Mining industry
  • Energy industry
  • Hydrogeology
  • Museum staff member
  • Government positions, including Congressional advisory staff on environmental and energy issues
  • A geology background is also good training for those interested in the growing field of environmental law.

cracks and ripple marks are visible on the surfaces of many of the mudstones.
