Teaching and Research Summary
When combined with my background in cartography, my interests in development, globalization, and the production of place and identity ensure that my teaching responsibilities and research agenda cover a lot of ground. Thus, in addition to teaching Cartography, GIS, and Remote Sensing), I engage with the complex intersections between economies, cultures, and politics in economic geography courses and senior seminars.
These same interests come together in my research on place and representation. For example, Mapping Tourism (2003), edited by Vincent Del Casino (California State University - Long Beach) and myself, combines critical cartography with recent theories of tourism to investigate the roles maps play in the reproduction of tourism spaces and identities.
