Who We Are
The Student Health Center (SHC) is a weekday health clinic specifically for residential students of UMW, that is, students living in the residential halls or University owned apartments. The SHC is focused on the routine acute health care needs of its student population and is limited in scope. It is not an emergency room and does not provide the full, comprehensive services of a family practice such as long term disease follow-up or hospital care. The SHC does not participate in any insurance plans and thus cannot do any medication pre-authorizations.
Who may be seen in the health center?
Any full-time UMW student living in a residence hall or the University apartments may be seen in the SHC. Part of the fees for University housing include a fee for use of the SHC.
The University does not charge students living off-campus a housing fee or the SHC fee. Therefore, off-campus students are not eligible for care at the SHC unless they chose to pay the SHC fee.
If you live off campus and wish to be seen in the SHC, please see the Off-Campus Student Request Form.
Who may not be seen at the health center?
- Off-campus UMW students who have not paid the fee
- Graduate students at CGPS
- Former UMW students
- UMW faculty or staff employees regardless of classification
- Family members of faculty, staff or students
- Visitors to UMW
- Individuals on campus for camps, programs or conferences
