Academic Year 2008-2009
The 1772 Foundation offers paid internship and fellowship opportunities for highly qualified undergraduate seniors and graduate students pursuing a degree in historic preservation or a closely allied field such as museum studies, architectural history, history, landscape architecture and planning. The 1772 Foundation is a national, non-profit organization whose mission is to fund those entities that preserve and enhance America’s built and natural environment. Topics of current interest for the 1772 Foundation focus on the development of preservation carpentry schools in the U.S and the emergence of greenway programs. Fellows’ research work will be under the direction of the executive director of the 1772 Foundation.
Spring, fall and summer fellowships are for ten (10) weeks with a stipend of $4,000 for graduate students; $3,000 for undergraduate students. The fellowship supervisor is located in Pomfret Center, Connecticut however arrangements can be made to accommodate fellowship research work done off site.
The purposes of the directed research projects are as follows:
- For the student to gain a clearer idea of how non profit foundations are managed
- For the student and the 1772 Foundation to explore new areas of preservation, historic site and museum assistance
- To investigate new ways of addressing preservation, historic site and museum issues and funding
