Hello Preservation-Minded Folks,

We at Dovetail have recently lost 3 staff members who returned to grad school. As such, we're a bit understaffed to complete some of the tasks around here. Instead of putting a formal ad out or bringing in someone who wants a full time job, Mike and I would like to bring someone on part time who can sort of act as a "jack/jill of all trades". Specifically, we're looking for a reliable person who has an interest in history or preservation to help out for about 20 hrs per week doing various tasks: helping to prepare architectural packets for submittal to the DHR, washing artifacts, binding reports, perhaps answering phones here and there, and a few other things. Their title would be Preservation Assistant. No specific preservation training is required, and we'd teach them the Virginia Data Sharing System (DSS- the central database for all Virginia historic buildings, sites, districts, etc) and any other duties they'd need to perform. The only thing is that this person needs to keep in mind that we're a Cultural Resource Management business so they'd have to be able to complete tasks within an alloted time frame and be able to work from our office in the Blue & Grey Business Park in Fredericksburg.

Our thought is that this could be the perfect position for someone who was, say, a stay-at-home parent or retired and just looking for a bit of grocery money. We'd get someone who was responsible and could be part of the team, while they got flexible hours and hopefully a job that is a bit better than waiting tables, bagging groceries, or the like (and I can say that having done both for many, many years!). The pay would be between $10-12/hour. Not a ton, but at least a paycheck for work that will hopefully be somewhat interesting. The ideal schedule would be, say 10-2 each day or 9-2 Mon-Thurs, but we can certainly work something out.

If you know of anyone who may be interested, please have them shoot me an email. We'd much rather go with a recommended source than have to go through the formal hiring process, which is why I'm sending you all this email.

I can be reached at this email address (kbarile@dovetailcrg.com) or on my cell phone (540-623-5106).

Thanks so much!
Kerri
