URS is seeking talented cultural resource professionals to join the Architectural History Team in the company’s Gaithersburg, Maryland office. Located just 25 miles from the Nation’s Capital, the Gaithersburg office is a dynamic profit center in one of the top architecture, engineering, and
construction firms in the nation. The successful candidate will join an established cultural resource management team and work with other Architectural Historians, Historians, Historic Architects, Archaeologists, and Conservators in a collegial, intellectually-stimulating environment
that fosters professional development.
The successful candidate will work on a diverse range of projects for a
well-developed client base that includes primarily Federal agencies such as
FEMA, NASA, USPS, and USACE, but also state and local government and
private entities. Project work will encompass the full scope of CRM
activities including: architectural and cultural resource survey; National
Register evaluation through determinations of eligibility and formal NR
nominations; effects determinations pursuant to Section 106 as well as
cultural resource impacts analyses in compliance with the National
Environmental Policy Act; documentation and recordation of historic
properties; writing Section 106 agreement documents; participation in
Section 106 consultation; and CRM training. Responsibilities will also
include providing broader programmatic guidance and support to Federal
agencies on compliance with Sections 106 and 110 of the NHPA, and Executive
Order 13287.
The successful candidate must be a flexible, enthusiastic, proactive
professional committed to client development. As a Senior Architectural
Historian, the individual must be able to perform efficiently in a team
environment as well as independently. The Senior Architectural Historian
will work with minimal supervision under the direction of the Architectural
History Team Lead. The individual will provide technical support to Project
Managers, but will also manage their own projects as assigned.
Requirements:
• Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification
Standards for Architectural History
• Possesses at least five years of experience working with Section 106 of
the National Historic Preservation Act
• Is ready and willing to travel for extended periods
• Possesses a high level of professionalism
• Is able to forge and strengthen long-term relationships with major
clients
This position may provide long-term, on-site support to major clients and as such may require travel for extended periods of at least three consecutive months.
