Manager, Corporate and Foundation Relations
The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is the nation's premier destination of heroism, adventure and fun, hosting over 750,000 visitors from around the world each year. Through the museum's exhibits, educational programming and special events, visitors experience her rich history of
service and learn about the humanity behind the hardware. The Intrepid Museum is gearing up for the re-opening of our new and improved museum complex for 2008. This is a great opportunity to be a part of our exciting team!
We are seeking a Manager, Corporate and Foundation Relations. The Manager is responsible for managing the Museum's efforts to secure funding from foundations and corporations for exhibitions, education programs, capital needs, general operations, event sponsorships, and
other special projects. As part of a small team, the Officer will identify, research, initiate contact with and cultivate new or existing donors; play a primary role in liaising with staff to design and
implement fundraising strategies that are complementary to the goals of the Museum and prospective donor; develop timely and persuasive proposals and comprehensive reports; and monitor donor tracking records, making sure to keep all stakeholders up-to-date on donor relationships and progress. This position reports to the VP, Institutional Advancement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Working with program and senior staff, identifying and prioritizing Museum funding needs;
* Researching and strategically aligning Museum goals with corporate and foundation goals;
* Creatively using research to strategically connect Museum senior staff, board, and volunteers with corporate and foundation representatives;
* Designing and implementing a short-and long-term fund-raising plan focusing on corporate and foundations goals, gift size, and strategic board, volunteer, and senior staff engagement, where
appropriate;
* Coordinating corporate relationships across Museum departments and within companies including corporate social responsibility, workplace giving, community relations, marketing and event sponsorships, cause marketing partnerships, and matching gifts;
* Once identified through prospect researching, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding relationships with donors, coordinating with other Museum staff as appropriate to ensure donor
expectations are being met;
* Promoting and maintaining relationship with foundation and corporate leadership;
* Writing, editing, and/or coordinating clear, compelling written materials including, concept papers, letters of inquiry, general correspondence, proposals, fact sheets, presentations, reports, meeting briefs, acknowledgements and additional materials as needed.
* Collaborating with grants management (Finance) and program colleagues to develop budget components for proposals and reports;
* Maintaining detailed records of research, proposal submissions and related correspondence, reporting data, and other contact information in historical paper and electronic files and in database;
* Managing all tracking information including proposal submission/deadline dates, proposed and actual gift amount; acknowledgement of gift, stewardship reports, grant renewal dates/gift
amounts, etc.
* Keeping key Museum stakeholders apprised of donors status through monthly reports;
* Collaborating on donor cultivation events;
* Working with VP, Institutional Advancement to develop strategic annual fundraising plan;
* Participating in other Development and Museum special projects or activities, as required by Management.
Requirements:
* Bachelor's Degree from a 4-year college/university or equivalent combination of academic and work experience; advanced degree preferred.
* At least 5 years of relevant experience as a successful, professional corporate and/or foundation fundraiser, with demonstrated familiarity with and proven ability to research, qualify, cultivate,
solicit and steward donors at varying levels of capacity;
* A proactive, innovative mindset to create and present compelling cases for funding, including multi-faceted corporate partnerships;
* Ability to prioritize and balance the management of multiple accounts and deadlines;
* Excellent writing, verbal, presentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills;
* Strong analytical and information management skills;
* Flexible work attitude, with the ability to work independently as well as in a team;
* Working knowledge of Raiser's Edge or a similar software;
* Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Raiser's Edge or their equivalents;
