Curator of Collections
Description.
The University of Wyoming Art Museum seeks a dynamic, team-oriented, and experienced curator for its collection of 7,000 works of art. A new position in the art museum, the Curator of Collections will be responsible for overseeing and advancing the Art Museum's collection, its scholarship, interpretation, curation, publication, access, and development; facilitating collection care and management with the Collections Manager; and teaching one course annually in the Art Department's art history curriculum.
The University of Wyoming Art Museum's collection of 7,000 objects is comprised primarily of American and European art dating from c.1300 to the present with special collections in Japanese woodblock prints, Japanese netsuke, Persian and Indian miniatures, and art of the Americas. An IMLS-funded project to assess collection content and valuation will conclude in the fall 2008 and provide a guide for future collection development.
Requirements.
Earned masters or commensurate level of professional accomplishment in Art History (American Art emphasis preferred); teaching experience beyond graduate assistantship; and minimum 5 years curatorial experience. Interdisciplinary background a plus. Essential are strong organzational, research, and communications skills; success in grant preparation and implementation, donor cultivation, and collections stewardship and development. Knowledge of museum standards and best practices; interest in fostering research and interdisciplinary
approaches to presenting and interpreting art; ability to facilitate use of the collection for study and research. Ability to work as a team; to work with donors and volunteers;
faculty, staff, students, and general audiences.
