Auditions
First-year incoming students and transfers:
Auditions occur the weekend before classes begin in August, unless otherwise
designated. Please complete the Audition Request Form and return it
by surface mail to the department. You will receive an assigned time
by email or surface mail in early August. Please prepare two pieces,
which represent your performance abilities very well. Look at the FAQ's!
Students taking private lessons will be charged an additional fee of
$50.00 per semester per type of lesson (e.g. a student taking piano
lessons pays $50 per semester; a student taking piano and violin lessons
pays $100 per semester).
Walford Scholarship applicants (understood as intended music majors
--with or without certification to teach or another major): Walford Scholarship Auditions
for the fall semester occur in January and February [specific dates listed under Scholarships]. Please prepare two contrasting pieces (e.g. by style, by era, by technical difficulty) which represent your performance
abilities very well. Interested students should contact Michael Morley mmorley@umw.edu for an
audition time.
If you submit your audition pieces on videotape, please make sure they
are postmarked by
Friday, February 12, 2010. [no cd ]
