Academic Planning Guides and course registration
Each new first-time freshman and transfer student will register for their fall courses during Preview. You will receive a mailing in the first week of June with detailed instructions on how to prepare for registering, what materials to bring with you to Preview, and a checklist of all the things you need to do to prepare for registration.
The online Freshman Academic Planning Guide or the Transfer Academic Planning Guide (depending on your status when you enter UMW) will walk you through all of the steps for creating a schedule. Once you have thoroughly reviewed this publication, visit the Office of the Registrar's list of courses offered for Fall 2006. You should use the Course Scheduling Sheet when selecting courses to ensure an evenly distributed weekly schedule with no courses or labs overlapping. After selecting several courses and alternates, fill in the Course Registration Request Form to bring with you to Preview. Specific instructions for filling out this form can be found in the each of the Academic Planning Guides. You MUST have this form completely filled out and reviewed by your Academic Advisor before you will be allowed to register. Be sure to fill the form in completely with Course Registration Numbers, Disciplines, Course Numbers, Suffixes, Sections, Grading Modes, Number of Credits, and Course Titles. Full-time students must take a minimum of 12 and may take a maximum of 18 credits in their first semester without special permission from the Office of Academic Services.
NOTE: Since the downloadable forms listed above are in PDF format, you will need a copy of Adobe's free Acrobat Reader software to view and print them. Click this link to Adobe's Web site, and follow the instructions there for download and installation. If you already have a copy of Acrobat Reader installed, just click on the appropriate form link and the form will open in a separate window.
Please submit all AP, IB, and transfer credit to the Office of the Registrar adhering to the guidelines outlined on their web site. Be sure to bring a copy of these documents with you to Preview as well.
If you have any questions while you prepare your fall schedule, please e-mail an advisor at advise@umw.edu.
If you are unable to attend Preview, you should return your Course Registration Request Form by mail before June 6, 2006 to:
