The University publishes an annual profile of the entering freshman class. Basic statistics about the institution follow:

CULTURAL DIVERSITY

We actively promote a campus environment enriched by racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity and characterized by a high level of mutual respect and understanding. Total minority enrollment is approximately 11%. Of that, roughly half are African-Americans, with the other half made up of Asians, Hispanics, Middle-Eastern students, and other ethnic groups.

FACULTY

90% have earned doctorates or other terminal degrees; student:professor ratio is 17:1, and the college is currently hiring additional faculty with the goal of reaching a 15:1 ratio in the next five years. There are no "teacher's assistants" at UMW.

CLASS SIZE

The college offers a very high quality academic program. We define quality as the sum of small classes, excellent teaching, and extensive personal attention to students . . . and we deliver on all three. The average class size is around 20-25 students.

COST

UMW has been nationally recognized by several publications as a "best buy" in higher education. A Virginia resident's annual tuition, fees, room and board average $11,298 and for a non-Virginia resident annual tuition, fees, room and board are $21,572.
