Do students need to make appointments?
Yes. Just as with other health care providers, CAPS services are provided by appointment and we do not have "walk-in" hours, although we do have crisis appointments available daily. Appointments are easy to schedule, either by calling CAPS or stopping by in person.
What can students expect when calling for an appointment?
All a student needs to say to our administrative assistant is that s/he wishes to make an appointment with one of the CAPS staff. She will ask for some basic information, including how we may contact the student, if necessary. She will also ask the student if s/he is in crisis. If an individual is in crisis she will ask for some additional information and will work to find the earliest possible appointment time. Whether in crisis or not, a student will usually receive an appointment time during his/her first contact. Ideally, first appointments will fall within two weeks of the first contact with CAPS, however this may not always be possible during times of especially high demand.
Students are asked to come to CAPS about 20-30 minutes prior to the start of the first session so that they can complete our registration forms.
