Housing Selection, Tuesday March 31, 2009

It is essential that everyone who is scheduled to attend housing selection on Tuesday night attend the selection. While current spaces are full, we will be taking preferred roommate and contact information as well as explaining how you will be housed for the Fall. Please do not panic! You are guaranteed housing. Please review this information before Tuesday night.

lottery numbers are now available !

Class Standing Lottery Number Range
5th year seniors 1-43
Rising seniors 49-603
Rising juniors 604-1061
Rising sophomores 1062-1708
2nd year freshmen 1709-1862

What you need to know about lottery numbers

  • There are not 1862 people in the process. The processor that assigns the lottery numbers often skips numbers. It's not possible to tell your chance at getting your first choice housing based on your number.
  • Your current accrued credits plus your current course load are combined to determine your rising status. Lottery numbers are assigned randomly within rising status.
  • All credits in Banner by 2/23/09 were included in the calculation of your rising status.
  • If you are signing up with someone who has a better number, you would go with that person on their assigned night. This is true if you are signing up for a suite as well - go on the night of the best lottery number.
  • Everyone in the process received an email with his/her lottery number. If you didn't get one, contact us at rlif@umw.edu and we'll send you another one.
  • Each building has received a copy of the lottery numbers for the residents in that building. A full list of all lottery numbers (alpha and lottery number order) are available in the Residence Life Office in Marye House.
  • Should you have any questions, please contact us at rlif@umw.edu or 540-654-1058.

Some things to remember about housing selection...

The homesteading forms are not online. We apologize for the confusion. You'll fill out the Housing Selection receipt in Marye House. It's the same form you would use to go through General Housing Selection.

It is very important that you know your class standing.  In order to be eligible for the Apartments at UMW, you MUST be a junior by credit (60 or more credits by the end of the Spring 2009 semester - credits taken during summer session at UMW or another institution can not be considered) or above. Individuals will not be released from their contracts because they were not eligible for the apartments or unable to secure housing in their first choice location.

The Housing and Dining Services contract is for a period of one academic year.  Please do not submit a contract as a "fallback" position in case you don't get off-campus housing.  You will not be released from your on-campus housing obligation.

The Housing Selection process is for returning students ONLY.  If you are a new student to UMW, you will receive your housing information in late April/early May.

housing and dining services contract

The text of the 2009-2010 Housing and Dining Services Contract is available online. It is essential that you read it, even if you have read it before. The contract has undergone significant changes. All continuing students will submit the contract through the Eaglelink portal. For a paper copy, please visit the Office of Residence Life in Marye House.

choICES

It is imperative that you come to housing selection with several choices in mind as your first choice may not be available at the time you select. In order to expedite the process for everyone, we're asking that people make their housing choices within five (5) minutes of approaching the assignment table.

Please be aware that towards the end of selection, it may not be possible to accommodate your preferred roommate choice.  Additionally, we may run out of space and individuals may be placed in temporary housing locations for Fall 2009.

The housing selection web pages will be updated with further information and clarification as necessary.
