STUDY ABROAD

  • All students going abroad for fall 2008 should notify the Office of Residence Life no later than Friday, April 10, 2009.
  • Residence Life will receive a final list of students going abroad from the Office of International Programs during the summer. At that time our office will contact students who have not yet notified us they will be abroad for the fall to verify that they are indeed going before removing any housing assignments that were completed during the Housing Selection process.
  • Roommates of students going abroad should be aware that, due to the demand for housing, Residence Life will place another student in need of fall housing in any vacancy created by a student who is studying abroad. Residence Life can neither hold a vacancy for the return of a student studying abroad in the fall nor permit the roommate residing in the room to buy-out the vacancy in the fall to hold the space. Should you need to update your smoking preference at any time, please submit it to the Housing Coordinator in writing including your signature and date by faxing to 540.654.1527 or email updates to rlif@umw.edu from your EagleMail account.
  • For those of you indicating on your Study Abroad form that you wish to reside on campus when you return for spring 2010, we ask that you complete the housing contract before you leave campus this semester.  A non-refundable $200 housing deposit may be required at the time the contract is submitted.  Residence Life will assign a space for you on campus and notify you via the Eaglelink portal in mid-December of your assignment.  Attention will be given to your preferred roommate and listed preferences as space permits.
  • Any "swap" agreements between students who are going for or returning from study abroad are strictly between the students and can not be enforced by the Office of Residence Life. All individuals involved in swap agreements must contact our office so that we are able to facilitate the assignment to the best of our ability.

Questions? Please contact Chris Musick, Director of International Programs at cmusick@umw.edu with program questions, or our Housing Coordinator, Joyce Baldwin, at jbaldwin@umw.edu  in regard campus housing.
