HOUSING FORMS

Housing and Dining Services Contracts are to be submitted via the Eaglelink portal for all current residential students. Contact the Office of Residence Life if you are a student returning from approved leave, including study abroad, if you require a paper copy of the contract.

HOUSING TERMS

Alumni Scholars:  Scholars required to reside on campus need to complete and submit a housing contract by February 13, 2009 to be issued a lottery number so they are able to participate in housing selection.

Apartment Addendum:  All students residing in the Apartments at UMW will be required to sign an addendum that provides the terms and conditions of living in the apartment complex at time of assignment.

  • The Addendum may be signed by proxy on behalf of an absent student at housing selection.
  • The form will be available in our office during homesteading, and posted to our web site a few days before General Housing Selection begins in March.
  • An addendum should not be submitted to this office until such time as you are assigned a space in an apartment.
  • When completing the addendum you will have the option to select an apartment meal plan.

Apartment Vacancies:  These will be filled during the summer from the Summer Room Change List as fall cancellations are received.

Buy-Out:  After all those guaranteed housing for the spring have been housed and room verification completed, students may apply for consideration to buy-out vacant space in his/her room for the spring semester only in from January 25 through January 29, 2010. Buy-out consideration is not given at any other time of the year to those with vacancies, and any buy-outs granted will not carry over to the fall semester should resident(s) choose to homestead.  Please see room change options listed below.

Contractual Obligation: The Housing and Dining Services contract is a binding agreement between the student and the University of Mary Washington for housing and dining services for the academic year 2009-10, beginning in fall 2009. Each student who submits a contract by the deadline is guaranteed housing.

Fall 2009 Opening: Residence halls open for returning students on Sunday, August 23, 2009 from 9:00 - 5:00 p.m. Please plan accordingly.

Fall Early Arrivals: Students needing to arrive early for fall 2009 must complete an “Early Arrival Application” and be associated with a University-sponsored program/event.  The University sponsor must contact the Office of Residence Life and complete the necessary paperwork for your early arrival. International and out-of-state students can contact Residence Life to discuss arriving on Saturday, August 22 on a case by case basis.

Housing Assignment Receipt: It is important that you retain a copy of your housing assignment receipt provided during general housing selection.

Housing Deposit:  The $200 non-refundable housing deposit is kept on the student’s account and is rolled from year to year so long as the student is living in UMW residence halls. The deposit is refunded once the student has graduated or is no longer a residential student. The deposit will be forfeit for anyone who enters into the contract and later cancels or is released for any reason.

Meal Plan Options: All residential and commuting students have the option to select from the Super, 15 and 9 meal plans.

The Super meal plan is good for unlimited eating at Seacobeck, with $50 flex for use in the Eagle’s Nest.

  • The 15-meal plan comes with $100 flex and the 9-meal plan with $175 flex. Flex can be used in both the dining hall and the Eagles Nest in the student center to supplement meals or to provide snacks.
  • Residents of the apartments also have the option to select a “block” plan of 90 meals per semester with $175 flex.
  • An additional 5-meal plan option is available to commuters only, and includes $75 in flex.
  • All fees for academic year 09-10 will be determined when the Board of Visitors meets in late April. Room and Board fees are posted at http://www.umw.edu/studentaccounts/room_board/default.php.

Non-discrimination Policy Information: In keeping with University policy, all housing assignments are made without discrimination by reason of race, religion, color, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation.

Non-Smoking Areas: All residence halls are non-smoking.

Order of selection at housing selection:  Fifth-year seniors (including master programs), rising seniors; rising juniors; rising sophomores; second-year freshmen.

Overfilling apartments

  • Seventy square feet of bedroom space is required for the first person, and fifty (50) square feet for each additional person. Room dimensions are available on apartment floor plans located on our website.
  • Bedrooms may be overfilled by current residential residents and those returning from approved leave as well as commuting students who are not part of the housing selection process when all residents residing in an apartment sign in agreement for a person to overfill a bedroom within the apartment.  The individual pulled into an overfill must still meet the 60+ credit requirement by the end of the spring 2009 semester in order to reside in the apartment in the fall.

Overfilling on-campus rooms:  Some students may elect to overfill a room (ex: three people in a double room).

  • Two students with housing selection numbers may choose to overfill with either an individual from the Waiting List, Priority List, or a readmitted/returning student.
  • Overfilling is not permitted in Alvey and Arrington Halls or in singles and quads.
  • Please note that the Office of Residence Life does not encourage students to overfill rooms.

Proxy Form:  This form allows students to designate someone to select a room in their absence.

  • The proxy must have a completed proxy form in order to go through the room selection process.
  • Students may also designate the Office of Residence Life as their proxy.
  • Students are encouraged to file a copy of the proxy with the Office of Residence Life in case the original is misplaced.
  • This form is available on our web site and from our office in Marye House.
