Homesteading – Traditional Housing
In order to be elegible for homesteading, residents must complete the Housing and dining contract online via the Eaglelink portal prior to coming to marye house. HOmesteading forms are not available online and are available at Residence Life.
Upper-class students may remain in their current room assignment next year through our Homestead Process. Homesteading begins on Monday, February 15 and ends on Friday, March 5, 2010.
- Individuals who homestead elect to remain in the current room to which they are assigned. Selecting another room in the building is not permitted during the homestead process.
- Homesteaders may pull in an eligible roommate, but are not permitted to fill a suite. Eligible roommates are current residential students and those returning for the fall semester from approved leave, including study abroad.
- Roommates homesteading are required to come together or use a proxy in the absence of any resident to the Residence Life Office in Marye House between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. beginning on Monday, February 15, 2010. Homesteading will end at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2010.
- Rising sophomores currently residing in Alvey, Custis, Jefferson, Marshall, Mason, Russell, and Virginia Halls ARE NOT ELIGIBLE to homestead and remain in freshman halls, but may be roommates to students who are homesteading in upper-class halls.
- Doubles are eligible for homesteading to current residents regardless of whether or not the room is filled. If not filled during homesteading by a current resident and a preferred roommate, the room will be filled during General Housing Selection.
- Individuals currently assigned to traditional single rooms may homestead unless the number of individuals needing medical housing accommodation to a single room is greater than the previous year. Residents will be notified prior to the beginning of housing selection if their homesteading request for a single room must be denied.
- Triples and quads are eligible only if those homesteading can fill them.
HOMESTEADING - University Apartments
- All homestead assignments are to be completed by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2010.
- Current residents of the apartments may homestead their own apartment, and will have the opportunity to pull in other current residential students to fill the apartment who will complete 60+ credits by the end of the spring semester.
- Please note that apartment residents who fail to complete 60+ credits by the end of the spring semester will be reassigned to traditional housing over the summer. Summer credits earned cannot be used for housing selection.
- All roommates homesteading an apartment are required to come together during the Homesteading process (or have proxies for missing roommates) to submit apartment addendums.
- Current residents in an apartment may select to move to a different room within the same apartment.
- The Apartment Addendum will be available in the Office of Residence Life in Marye House for those homesteading.
- Those selecting single rooms in the apartments will also be required to sign the Single-Room Agreement form found on the reverse side of the Apartment Addendum thereby agreeing to pay the additional cost of the single room.
- Current commuters who are rising juniors or seniors only qualify to be residents as “overfills” as they are not part of the housing lottery. Please complete the overfill agreement found on the back of the apartment addendum, available as a separate form on our web site, or from the Residence Life Office in Marye House. Each resident of the apartment is required to sign the overfill agreement before the overfill will be granted regardless of what room he/she lives in.
- To overfill apartment bedrooms, seventy square feet of bedroom space is required for the first person, and fifty (50) square feet for each additional person. Room dimensions are available on apartment floor plans located on our website.
- All homesteading receipts must clearly state to which room each resident of an apartment is being assigned, and students may not occupy any other room without filing a request for a room change with the Assistant Director of the apartments in the fall.
