Dear Student,
You are receiving this email because you have been placed in West Village (WV). At this time, there are 70 people assigned to the complex.
We know that you have many questions and want to make sure we’re giving you all the information that you need as you prepare to return to UMW. Please share this information with your parents so that they, too, can have their questions answered.
First thing – please do not contact the staff at Belmont or Priority Corporate Housing for tours or information. While the University is working with these groups to bring you a quality housing experience, they are not authorized to show rooms or to answer questions on behalf of the University. Please contact the Office of Residence Life at either rlif@umw.edu or 540-654-1058.
Information that you may find helpful (some of this isn’t new – just reiterated!):
- Everyone will be in two bedroom apartments. There will be two students per bedroom.
- Beds are single beds similar to on-campus housing. You will not need to purchase different sheets.
- Each apartment is equipped with a full kitchen. There is also a washer and dryer in each apartment. No cooking utensils, silverware, dishes or glasses will be provided.
- So long as you are residing in West Village, you may participate in the Apartment Block meal plan. Once you are relocated to traditional housing you will need to switch to a traditional meal plan.
- The transportation schedule is still being developed. The complex is within walking distance of campus and there will be plenty of parking for those bringing cars. There is also a Fred Bus stop in front of the complex for your convenience.
- As indicated previously, you will have access to all complex amenities. This includes the pool (while open), exercise room, clubhouse, volleyball court, tennis court, car-washing station and outdoor barbecue.
- There will be two resident assistants assigned to the complex. The Assistant Director in charge of the complex is Cynthia Richards.
- Check-in will be conducted at West Village. Representatives of Priority Corporate Housing and UMW Residence Life will be available to help you find your apartment and answer any questions you have about living there.
- There is no additional charge for students residing in West Village.
- Once you have been notified that there is an on-campus space for you, you are required to relocate. We do not intend to move anyone after Fall Break, so, there is potential for you to be housed in West Village until December. All students will be relocated to traditional campus housing in December.
- The complex provides covered parking at an additional charge. The covered parking is not part of the provided amenities.
- All students registering cars will receive commuter parking passes while residing at West Village. The parking pass will be re-issued once you return to campus.
- The Fredericksburg City Police are located on block from the complex. Mary Washington Hospital is located across Cowan Boulevard.
- Policies and procedures will be nearly identical to living on campus. One exception will be the processing of maintenance requests. You will receive additional information upon your arrival.
- It is important to remember that you will be living in the Fredericksburg community and it is essential to be good neighbors at all times. Individuals who violate community or University policies will be moved to the top of the relocation list.
Please acknowledge receipt of this email by replying and indicating what meal plan you wish to have. You are welcome to retain the meal plan you signed up for or change to the Apartment Block plan.
Again, should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We’re looking forward to you returning in a few weeks!
Sincerely,
Chris Porter
