What is the FYE Community?
The FYE Community is a part of the Generating Opportunities for Leadership Development (GOLD) program. Community members have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and utilize their knowledge within a challenging and supportive environment. This program provides the building blocks for becoming a responsible leader, active follower and a role model. In addition to providing a limited number of students the opportunity to interact with faculty and staff outside of the traditional classroom, it allows students to engage in experiences that promote success in college.
What are the benefits of the program?
- Students live in a small community which allows them to develop more meaningful and lasting relationships with their peers.
- Students are exposed to resources on campus and within the Fredericksburg community through specialized programming.
- Students are given the opportunity to reflect on their freshman experience and set goals for their future college experience.
- Mentoring by students who have successfully completed the program and/or proven and committed leadership to the University.
- Interactive discussions on leadership ideology with UMW Faculty/Staff
- Exposure to leadership activities which will promote further success in college.
